Canadian Charlies

This is a story is about Charles Ponsford and his search for the treasure of his favourite radio character Bluebottle.
Charles, 24, had few interests in life. In fact, he led a particularly boring life. His one love was his library of Goon Show recordings. He would constantly listen to the recordings. He had listened to the shows so many times over a period of time that the storyline and the characters in the shows had started to take on a reality.
One day, a day spent just like any other day in his boring life, whilst waiting for something to happen - something happened!
It was something which would change his life forever.  It was the day he met Flynn and Ryles. They offered him the opportunity to find the treasure of Bluebottle.
Did Bluebottle have treasure? Did Charles succeed in finding what he was looking for? Did Charles know why he was doing it? What would be his reward?
It is my hopes, in writing this story, to encourage the younger generations, who have not been introduced to the Goon Show, to go and find out.
Me? I wrote the story for my Grandsons in hopes that one day they will want to know: What was the 'Goon Show'?

Brian Powdrill was born in Hull, East Yorkshire in 1946. Although he had a very happy childhood in Hull, it was his time spent in Fulham, London he enjoyed the most. His sister lived in London and from a very early age he would spend time there. His school holidays and holidays during his youth were always taken in Fulham.
Like many of his generation he was brought up during that golden age of British radio comedy. It was during one of his school holidays in London, as a young lad, when he first started listening to those comedy shows on the radio. Of some of the many marvellous shows around at that time such as; Hancock's Half Hour, Take it From Here, Life of Bliss, Ray's a Laugh, and The Al Reed Show, it was the 'Goon Show' which was and still remains a particular favourite.
In 1989, after many years service in both ships and submarines, he retired from the Royal Navy. He now lives, with his wife Marilyn and son James, in the Yorkshire village of Cranswick, where his time is happily dedicated to his family. It was for his young Grandchildren he wrote this story.

Addendum:

"I am deeply indebted to the
GSPS in allowing me to become a member and welcoming me into their arms at the recent London Meeting, in particular the wonderful Les Drew for all his help and support (I shall wear it always…) and the effervescent John Repsch for announcing me so enthusiastically"
